Reflect on the following questions and answer them in some detail.
1. Which of the possible venues do you think would best suit this play? Why do you believe the dramatic action would be best served in this venue?
I think the best venue for this play would be a cellar theater as this play is relatively intimate, and would allow the feeling and the emotions of the characters as well as the context of the play to come more easily. Due to a large proportion of the play taking place in a vehicle it makes since that this play would be on a smaller stage.
2. What are some of the design challenges posed by the play?
I think one of the major design challenges for this play would be being able to portray the idea of being in a car, and be able to also show the emotions and actions with accuracy and clarity. As there are many flashback in this play, it would also be quite difficult to illustrate.
3. Choose the various chorus characters and discuss how you see them dressed. In what ways do you think the costumes you describe would help articulate their purpose in this play?
In general I'd suggest clothing that wouldn't take away from the narrative of the story, and distract from the message. Perhaps something simpler as to not take attention away from the events in the play.
4. Provide some ideas about the use of light in the play?
I think low lighting as to illuminate and emphasize the emotions and feeling of Lil' Bit in response to the situation that Peck has put her in. I think when the chorus join in here and there, a spotlight should illuminate them. Due to the low lighting we have a heightened since of alienation felt by Lil 'Bit and it also adds to the feeling of being in a car.
5. Suggest music and sound effects that could help accentuate the mood or atmosphere of the play.
I think the voice-over of the manual style character should sound very automated as to create a strong distinction between what is actually happening and the instructions. Also I think perhaps some of the songs she listened to to write the play might be played quietly and then shut off at the beginning of the dialog, I think this would add very interesting context to the interactions.
